We live in a world where a video of a bacon-loving dog plaintively asking, “Oh, no!  The maple kind?” can get more than 130,000,000 viewers. How truly important news could get that kind of attention and traction was the challenge that brought Nonviolent Peaceforce to Ideas To Go.

Nonviolent Peaceforce is an organization dedicated to making the world a safer place for people who live in areas of conflict and violence. Their peacekeepers provide direct protection for civilians under threat, working alongside locals to prevent further violence and diffuse long-standing conflicts.

In the spring of 2011, we facilitated an ideation session with a group of passionate and articulate people―key leaders from Nonviolent Peaceforce, influential supporters, peacekeeper volunteers back from the field, journalists and authors, social media experts, and several of our Creative Consumers® associates.

In order to get beyond the obvious, we kicked off the ideation with an exercise designed to plumb the experience on this diverse team. We created a crazy-long list of ways information is transferred–from traditional print, voice, and social media to gossip, invoices, Morse code, a wink, etc. We then used that list as fodder to generate possibilities for garnering media attention. Next we dug deeper with exercises designed to understand the complex emotional triggers that cause people to take action and again, leveraged that creative fodder to generate even more possibilities. Together, we generated more than 500 ideas for ways Nonviolent Peaceforce could get the media attention and support it needs to continue their important mission.

Today we’re inviting you to join us as we help them with another important communications challenge: distill their mission into a compelling tagline that conveys their essence, calls people to action, and distinguishes Nonviolent Peaceforce from other international organizations.

Please send your ideas for Nonviolent Peaceforce's new tagline to Linda at lburkett@nonviolentpeaceforce.org. They will be accepting submissions until Sunday, March 31st.

No doubt sharing your creative talents with a worthy cause is sufficient reward, but the lead ideas will also bring the authors a Peace Bond autographed by a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
